Individuals dressed in the attire of their surroundings,
mimicking the forest,
I occasionally contemplate whether we can perceive our true selves.
As children, we are apt to form initial judgments of a book based solely on the illustrations of its cover.
However, as we mature and accumulate life experiences, our focus shifts to the content within the pages.
Hunting, like a book, can be perceived differently by various individuals.
Some may only see the cover, perceiving a mature buck, a record book rack, or simply meat on the table.
Illustrations and attractive images may be their sole focus.
Nevertheless, The Woodland Pursuit transcends the mere harvesting of an animal.
The quest is not confined to a single moment in time but encompasses numerous journeys and pages, each containing a lifetime of narratives.
Hunting serves as a source of energy that sustains our souls and defines our essence.
It represents the enduring love that we can cherish and hold onto throughout our lives.
These memories are etched deeply in our minds.
I recall my father guiding his son through worn-out deer trails, eventually sharing the exhilaration of a first success.
I vividly remember the inseparable bond between four cousins during the autumn season, engrossed in countless archery sessions, and the weekend hunting escapades.
Presently, my deer mounts have faded, gathering dust and losing their former significance.
However, the memories of my family remain as sharp and vivid as ever.
As I ascend an ancient oak tree, I feel a closer connection to them and to a higher power.
Personally, hunting holds a profound spiritual dimension.
Thus, I engage in frequent conversations with God, my parents, Paul, Joe, and Phil, all of whom listen attentively.
Initially, I was preoccupied with my goals and ambitions, failing to recognize my own identity and the true trophies I already possessed.
The most significant and valuable aspects of hunting eluded me—the relationships, the camaraderie, and the shared experiences.
I recall the early morning hunting meetups, the three-hour phone conversations meticulously planning the following day, and the serene tranquility that hunting brings.
Life has become quieter, yet it carries a haunting quality at times.
However, I find solace in hunting, as it provides me with goals and optimism for the future.
I plan out-of-state hunts, local hunts, and even 3D shoots, which serve as a form of mental and emotional healing.
Always moving forward, always striving,
For there are no failures in life, only those who abandon their goals.
And I shall not abandon mine.
Thus, I venture forth onto social media to fill the void,
Hoping to forge new connections and foster a sense of camaraderie among enthusiasts.
To share my passion for the outdoors, as it has been shared with me,
To freely share all aspects of myself and my enthusiasm with anyone who expresses interest.
To contribute to the resurgence of camaraderie within our sport.
This is The Woodland Pursuit.
